Dan Elliott CPA, CFDS

For most, Separation and Divorce is a life transition journey filled with questions, stress, emotions, and ongoing issues. There are a variety of process options for navigating separation and divorce. Whichever process you choose, there are family and children issues to address, critical financial and tax liability issues, and of course, lots of legal issues and rights to understand and address. Having the right team of people guiding you through the process helps tremendously. I have been through this myself.

Given my personal journey through separation, and the opportunity to reconsider my career with additional specialized training, I now apply my professional financial skills, experiences, and knowledge to helping separating couples navigate through the process smoothly and successfully, leading to fair and workable settlements on the financial issues. I created FairFifty Divorce Financial Solutions.

My mission is to assist separating individuals or couples in reaching a timely and balanced settlement agreement that is financially fair, best meets each party’s goals, and which is durable and remains fair in the long term. My goal is to help couples develop realistic expectations, set goals, gain a thorough understanding of their family financial situation, and focus on finding solutions that result in fair financial solutions for both while maintaining or restoring a respectful and working relationship with each other. Ending the process with a working relationship with your ex makes shared parenting easier for all involved, and lowers your go-forward stress levels.

Ultimately you want a financial solution that you are confident is fair and equitable, yet one that works for you and your children in your circumstances. You want a financial solution that sets you up for success in your next life chapter. Many are also concerned that their partner also has a fair and appropriate financial settlement in the outcome.

As a Chartered Financial Divorce Specialist (CFDS- a Canadian designation), I am uniquely trained and equipped to assist in assessing your family’s financial situation, helping you develop goals for your future, and, as part of your team, developing settlement options that are fair to both parties and which align with those goals. Your lawyer will be equally valuable to you in the process to ensure you are aware of all your legal rights and entitlements and to keep the process moving forward toward resolution in a timely manner.

While I live in the Aurora area, I work with clients in other parts of the GTA and Ontario, as much of our work is now conducted by video conference. (You just need a smart phone or a computer with a camera, speakers or headphones, and a good internet connection.) Much of my work is referred to me by client lawyers. Be sure to ask your lawyer for me to join your collaborative team at the beginning of your process.

Please contact me to set up a complimentary initial consultation and understand more about how I can help in your situation. I prefer to speak with you prior to you choosing a lawyer, as sometimes that choice limits your process options.

I also offer an Initial Joint Neutral Consultation to take place before either of you retains a lawyer. This session could save you thousands in fees. In this flat fee session, you share information about your situation, your family and other matters. Based on what you share, I review with you various process options to get you to a separation agreement in Ontario. At the conclusion of the session, you and your partner will be equally informed on process options, and next steps, along with reasonable expectations for what is ahead. Based on your agreed process, I can refer you to excellent family law professionals for your consideration. Contact me to set up an Initial Joint Neutral Consultation.

I look forward to meeting you and helping you through this chapter in your life.
